Course 2: Carbon Footprint Baseline

David is the REVchain Master Class Instructor as well as a Senior Fellow at Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability and the author of numerous books such as Reinventing the Energy Value Chain, the latest he wrote.

Alok Gupta is co-author with David of the book Reinventing the Energy Value Chain and Partner & Chief Economist at Boston Strategies International. Alok will present the lesson “How to calculate the carbon footprint baseline?”. 

Each source of emissions is multiplied by standard emissions factors to estimate how much CH4, CO2, and N2O are emitted for that type of emission. Because we start at specific sources of emission at specific levels of industry-specific value chains, the resulting carbon footprint result is more accurate than an alternative more generalized approach of multiplying the total output by a single industry-wide emissions factor or even by single industry-wide factors for each greenhouse gas.
