Course 3: Reducing Internal (Scope 1) Emissions

David is the REVchain Master Class Instructor as well as a Senior Fellow at Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability and the author of numerous books such as Reinventing the Energy Value Chain, the latest he wrote.

Process improvements can comprise a win-win approach to reducing Scope 1 carbon footprint, which can make a important contribution toward achieving net zero. Over many years of consulting, I’ve seen process, improvements, cut costs, waste, headcount, and management, distraction and hassle by up to 70%.

They are in essential and logical leave first step toward on the net zero journey. First, most of us are familiar with some of them so we can embark on some changes without the uncertainty of dealing with totally new domains of expertise or specialized knowledge from outsiders. Second, they can be implemented in a shorter time horizon than some more “invasive” changes such as information, technology or new energy technologies, which require either platform development or infrastructure build-out. Third, opportunities may already be known or can be analyzed or deduced from existing information without extensive study.

This course helps you assess process improvement methods to determine which ones will be winners for you. It also helps you learn how to decide whether to adopt clean energy technologies such as battery storage and hydrogen fuel cells.

In addition to yielding concrete decarbonization action steps, this module should be an educational journey, and it will help you learn about your organization’s potential to be more effective.
